How long does my hair need to be?

You’ll want to have a minimum of 4 inches of growth to create dreadlocks.

What's the process for getting new dreadlocks?

We use a combination of backcombing and crochet techniques to create your unique set of dreadlocks. It's a personalized process that ensures your locs suit your style and preferences.

How long does the installation process take?

The time varies based on factors like hair length and thickness. Generally, plan for several hours, and we'll make sure it's a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Can I wash my hair with new dreadlocks?

Absolutely! It's important to keep your scalp clean. We recommend a gentle residue-free shampoo. We'll provide you with care tips to ensure your locs stay healthy and happy.

Will my new dreadlocks be tight from the beginning?

While they may feel snug initially, it's normal for dreadlocks to loosen a bit as they mature. It's all part of the natural progression, and we're here to guide you on how to care for them during this phase.

How often should I come in for maintenance after the initial install?

Maintenance frequency varies, but we generally recommend touch-ups every 4-6 weeks. This ensures your dreadlocks stay neat and well-maintained.

Can I change the length of my dreadlocks later on?

Yes, you can! We're here to accommodate changes to your dreadlocks as your style preferences evolve. Just let us know your desired adjustments during your maintenance appointments.

Are permanent dreadlocks suitable for all hair types?

Absolutely! Whether your hair is straight, wavy, or curly, we can create dreadlocks that suit your unique texture and style. Kinky or texture hair locs differently than straight or wavy hair types, and depending on your hair texture, I may offer you a referral to other locticians who specialize in textured hair installs.

Maintenance

FAQ

How do I care for my dreadlocks?

Proper dreadlock care involves regular washing and maintenance, including separating the locks to prevent them from combining and matting together. You should also avoid using products that can leave residue in your hair, such as wax and gel. Also, certain shampoos are more ideal than others— I recommend avoiding shampoos with sulfates or parabens.

Can I color and bleach my dreadlocks?

Yes, you can color and bleach your locs but be aware that frequent coloring or bleaching can damage your locks and lead to breakage.

Can I swim or shower with my dreadlocks?

Yes, you can swim and shower with your dreadlocks, but you should be sure to thoroughly dry your locs afterward to prevent mold or mildew growth.

How do I wash my dreadlocks?

Washing is your friend!! Don’t be afraid to get in there and rough them up .. you absolutely need a healthy scalp to have dreads. Wash once a week with shampoo, squeeze the suds into the center of your dreads and thoroughly rinse and squeeze out any soap and water. Conditioning should really only be done in the mature stages of dreadlocks or used only in the ends to keep the tips softer and wispy. Anti dandruff shampoo can be used if needed as well as adding some natural oils on the scalp.

When should I get my dreads maintenanced?

Every person is different. You’ll know when the time is right. I recommend every other month, because you don’t want to overtighten them as it can cause damage. If you wait too long, other problems may arise, such as combining or changing shapes.

Can I remove my dreads if I change my mind?

Absolutely, we can comb them out at any time. Patience is key to saving your hair when you’re ready to switch up your look.
